The Only Even Prime Number

It might seem unbelievable at first, but there is an even number that is a prime number. Yeah, even numbers are known to be divisible to us and we might have a hard time believing that there is an even prime number.

To understand why an even number can be a prime number, we have to first understand what an even number truly is. An even number is a number that is divisible by 2. And let us also recall what a prime number is. A prime number is a number that has no other factors other than 1 and the number itself. So by logic, since all even numbers that are divisible are 2, they have a factor other than 1 and the number itself.

But there is an exception 2. You see 2 is an even number and is divisible by 2 which is itself. Therefore the only other factor which can divide 2 is 1. Therefore 2 has only two factors i.e. 1 and 2( the number itself). Thus it qualifies to be a prime number.
